MANILA, Philippines — Two ashing events and 22 volcanic earthquakes were observed from Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Occidental on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported on Thursday.
Article continues after this advertisementPhivolcs told INQUIRER.net that the first ashing event occurred at 5:38 a.m. and lasted seven minutes, while the second one happened at 2:36 p.m. and lasted 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, volcanic earthquakes are those “generated by magmatic processes or magma-related processes beneath or near an active volcano.”
Article continues after this advertisementIn its 24-hour observation, Phivolcs said that Kanlaon Volcano also emitted 5,760 tons of sulfur dioxide, with plumes reaching 100 meters high that drifted southwest and west-southwest.

Article continues after this advertisementMeanwhile, Phivolcs also told INQUIRER.net that no vog was observed from its crater.
Further, the volcano remains at Alert Level 2 or increased unrest.
Article continues after this advertisementPhivolcs still prohibited entry into the four-kilometer radius of the permanent danger zone and flying of aircraft near the volcano.
The agency also warned that possible hazards such as phreatic explosions and precursory magmatic activity may occur.
