Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain has been admitted to the ICU of a San Francisco hospital with heart related problemsnextbet, where his condition is stated to be critical.
The country was shocked on Sunday evening after news of his passing away broke. The news was reported by various verified social media handles, including Ministry of Information and broadcasting which posted a tribute on its twitter handle. The ministry later deleted the post when the legendary table players family and friends confirmed ``he was critical but still alive''.
Amid these reports his publicist confirmed to PTI that the percussionist is being treated at the San Francisco hospital and "has not passed".
Indian Express also quotedHussain's sister Khurshid Aulia saying“He is still alive. Please, I request you to pray for him. I am in touch with the family. He is very critical, but he is still breathing''.
PTI reported his deteriorating health condition and being hospitalised due to it earlier, and quoted his friend and flautist Rakesh Chaurasia.
Hussain's manager Nirmala Bachani told the media that the 73-year-old US-based musician had been having blood pressure issues.
Hussain had taken the tabla to the global stage in his illustrious life as an artist. He has received five Grammy Awards in his career, including three at the 66th Grammy Awards earlier this year.
Bachani told PTI earlier on Sunday, "He has been admitted to a hospital in San Francisco for a heart related problem for the last two weeks."
"He is unwell and admitted in the ICU right now. We all are worried about the situation," said Chaurasia.
A user named Ameer Aulia who is claiming to be Hussain's nephew wrote a post on microblogging site X where he said that the tabla maestro is alive.
Industrialist Harsh Goenka in a tribute to the Tabla maestro wrote a post on X, "The world falls silent as the tabla loses its maestro. Ustad Zakir Hussain, a rhythmic genius who brought the soul of India to global stages, has left us. I was privileged to know him because of his connection with HMV and hear him perform at our home. His beats will echo eternally." He also shared a clip of Hussain's performance.
