MANILA, Philippines — The ninth and final Novena Mass for the Feast of Jesus Nazarene is scheduled for Wednesday, January 8, at the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno, commonly known as Quiapo Church.

According to a Facebook advisory from the church, the Novena will begin at 11:45 a.m., followed by the Holy Mass at 12:15 p.m. The Mass will be led by Rev. Fr. Samuel Estrope II, Parochial Vicar of the Parokya ng Santiago Apostol in Plaridel, Bulacan.

This year’s feast is themed: “Mas mabuti ang pagsunod kaysa paghahandog (1 Sam. 15:22) sa mga umaasa kay Jesus.”

Manila Archbishop Cardinal Jose Advincula will celebrate a Holy Mass at midnight on Thursday, January 9, followed by the continuation of the vigil in the Panalangin sa Bukang-liwayway (Prayer at Dawn).

Meanwhile, the “Pahalik” or the kissing and touching of the Jesus Nazareno image began ahead of schedule at 8:05 p.m. on Monday, January 6, at the Quirino Grandstand. The activity will continue until the Traslacion, or procession of the Jesus Nazareno image, on Thursday.

The firm hopes to secure provisional authority to make its business up and running while the ERC’s virtual hearing on its application is in progress, according to the document posted on the regulator’s website on Wednesday, October 2.
